If you’re like me, you probably like to fall asleep with the TV. Well if you are, remember to use the sleep function on your TV. If you’re not the type of person that falls asleep around the same time, set your sleep mode to around 90 minutes. TV can use a lot of energy and the energy saved by it not being on all night with no one watching can add up quickly.

Most of us have dishwashers. Most of the time they are timesavers. But they can also be money drainers. Instead of setting your dishwasher at “Heat Dry,” set it at “Cool Dry” or if possible turn off drying completely and simply hand dry your dishes when you unload. This will save huge amounts of electricity especial if you have an older dishwasher and/or you run your dishwasher a number of times over the week.

Keep the Change

Most of us ignore their pocket change. Thrown into an ashtray; dumped in a jar; toss on a dresser to be forgotten. But hold on to that change!

How many times have you gone to the store and the amount comes to something dollars and 71 cents and instead of digging out the correct change, you just decide to break a dollar. You get your 29 cents back and its quickly forgotten. You run somewhere else, this time the amount is something dollars and 41 cents. Again by habit, you bypass the option of giving correct change and you break another dollar.

Just in those two transactions you have broke two dollars needlessly and since most people don’t spend their change, you have essentially spent two extra dollars. And this is just two transactions. Just imagine the thousands of transactions you like this people do over their life and you can see how it adds up.

But you don’t need to carry pounds and pounds of bulky coins to have an affective amount of change. Instead, before you leave the house, think about what you may have to purchase and take a reasonable amount.

Earlier today I had a great idea for a post for today. But of course I wasn’t near a computer or free to post it. And of course I forgot what the heck I was going to post about. Well since it was such a great idea I’ll probably remember it later. But let this be a lesson to all you bloggers our there, if you come up with a good idea for a post, write the idea down if you can’t get to the computer at that moment!

Blu-Ray Costs are Going Up

So apparently the cost of Blu-Ray players have skyrocketed since the death of HD-DVD. Of course this doesn’t shock me. Sony and it’s pals up to just last month where in an intense price war with the much cheaper to produce and therefore much cheaper to buy HD-DVD. Now with the war over Sony and pals are looking to recope as much of the money they lost in the battle with HD-DVD as they can.

So who as consumers do we blame for this? Warner Bros. It’s pretty obivious that Sony offered WB some serious cash to go Blu-Ray only when there was still the possibility of Sony still making a buck off Blu-Ray before the battle with HD-DVD and the lower cost of production sucked them dry. Why esle would Warner support a technology owned by the parent company of a rival studio?

But as being the Cheap S.O.B. and being cheap I suggest just forgetting about Blu-Ray and simplely get an Upconverting DVD player until the Blu-Rays players are around $100 and the discs are less than $20.

The Drive-Thru Drove up my Gas Bill, Part 2

The other night I decided to do a late-night McDonald’s run and I guess I wasn’t the only one. When I pulled into the parking lot there was about 6 cars in front of me. I didn’t think that was too bad, 6 cars can be served pretty quickly, but not that night. In all I spent 15 minutes in the drive-thru, had my car running for about 3 minutes total and restarted my car 5 times. Since according to AAA the typical car uses about the same amount of gas to start as it does idling for one minute. Using that figure I used almost 50% less gas than the everyone else in the drive-thru who kept their cars running.

I will be taking a break from blogging to overhaul the entire site. The break will probably be for at least two weeks. If something major comes up I might make a post every once in awhile over the that time.
